Guam
Guam Politics and Culture
Guam is a territory of the United States of America and a part of its Pacific military strategy. Its official status is as a “non-incorporated territory” where although the people are classified as US citizens, Guamanians lack voting rights in US elections.
The indigenous people of Guam are the Chamorro, of mixed Micronesian, Spanish and Filipino descent but its multi-ethnic population also includes Japanese, Chinese, and other Pacific islanders. The modern Chamorro language is close to modern Philippine languages, classified as an Austronesian language which has absorbed a lot of Spanish vocabulary.
